Following his first exhibition in 2014, iSculpture Gallery is pleased to present the solo exhibition “Soul” by Gerald Moroder, which will be held at Museum of Chiusa (Capuchin monastery): Nine new works – small and large sculptures and sculptural panels – realized between 2016 and 2017.
The title Soul highlights the theme that runs through his work, so that the layout of the exhibition is crossed by a vital tension and an innate yearning turned to a spiritual dimension. His human figures, emaciated and essential in form, are stretched outward looking, looking for a way, a revelation. They are images of human essence, timeless figures, devoid of characteristics that connect to a space and an era, are archaic contemporaries. He comes from Val Gardena and yet he is not tied to the wood carving tradition of his valley; in fact, he works with a mixture of sand, iron and porphyry stone – materials that, in themselves, maintain history. Even the material has embarked on its own exploration: It consists of particles, becomes stratified and oxidizes thus abandoning part of itself in order to welcome the new.
